Most Anticipated Books of January 2017

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 💕👫💕
It's officially 2017 now!

*Hooray*
*Hooray*
*Hooray*

My wish is for all of us - people I have met and people I have yet to meet - to have a happy, warm, and beautiful year in 2017.
Let us read amazing books, meet amazing people, write amazing stories, and be happy in life.
That's all I could ever wish for (:

And now... here are 19 of my most anticipated books to open up out year!
It's going to be a great one - I can fee it.

The Book Jumper by Mechthilds Glaser
Publication date: January 3, 2017

The world will never have enough of books about books coming to life.
Seriously, never.

This book actually came out in 2015. In Germany.
Yup, this book was originally written in German. And it is now being translated into English.

Good news, since this book is about a girl - Amy - who is able to jump through stories & I totally want to read it.

It's actually not my first German-English read.
Two years ago I read - and absolutely loved - the Ruby Red trilogy by Kerstin Gier. Ever since then I'm all for translated books.
There are so many amazing stories out there, and a lot of them are in languages we cannot read.

And here we have a book that sounds super awesome!
Out of the 5 levels of excitement, I'm definitely on a 4 for this one.

Lost Girls by Merrie Destefano
Publication date: January 3, 2017

I actually received and e-ARC of this book, and I couldn't be more thankful for it.

Lost Girls intrigued me instantly with its compelling synopsis.

Rachel doesn't remember anything that happened in the past year.
All she remembers is falling asleep as one girl and waking up as a completely different person. Bloodied, in a ditch, and apparently missing.
The thing is: she was only missing for a few days. Yet she doesn't remember a year.
A year in which she, apparently, became popular. Different. Other.

What happened to her that past year?
More importantly: what happened to the other girls who went missing? The ones who didn't come back.

Under Rose-Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall
Publication date: January 3, 2017

Norah has agoraphobia and OCD.

This is the first line of the synopsis and that's really all I need to know.
Mental health is very important to me - personally - and so I always jump at the opportunity to read about it when it's portrayed in books.

Furthermore, the cover is beautiful, Isn't it?
I love it.

Love and First Sight by Josh Sundquist
Publication date: January 3, 2017

The title alone is both funny and beautiful, isn't it?

I never read a book about blindness before (the topic always scared me). But this is more of a hopeful story, since the main protagonist is actually able to see for the first time in his life (due to a surgery) and things... well, happen (:

Sounds like a fun, beautiful story about the true meaning of how we 'see' things.

Whenever I'm With You by Lydia Sharp
Publication date: January 3, 2017

A missing boy.
A road trip into the Alaskan wilderness.
A week that will change everything...

Sounds like a rather interesting story.
I was always intrigued with the concept of twins so there is that, too.

A YA contemporary with possible romance in the Alaskan wilderness in search of a missing boy.
Yup, sounds interesting.

Also, the author mentioned in a and fun and cute poem that she was writing this story while listening to "Stand by You" by Rachel Platten.
I love that song!

When Ash Rains Down by Cecelia Earl
Publication date: January 4, 2017

Now this book sounds really great.
I want it to be a really great YA fantasy romance angels vs. demons doomsday kind of book.
From the synopsis, it definitely sounds that way.

The Continent by Keira Drake
Publication date: January 3, 2017

So apparently this book has been getting some very very negative reviews.
From what I was able to gather, it's about racism issues.

Now I try to refrain from judging a book before I myself have read it \ given it a try. But... the reviews and comments on Goodreads (from bloggers and people who read the book) are very hard to ignore.

It wasn't like this when I first heard about the book a few months ago.
I suddenly saw it when I started writing this post.

Nonetheless, I'm going to pick it up and see for myself.

After note: so... I just checked out the book on my kindle and oh my god, it says the publication date is set to December 1, 2020.
Am I reading this right?
I knew they pushed the publication date due to certain issues but isn't 3 years a little extreme?
Makes one wonder...

RoseBlood by A.G. Howard
Publication date: January 10, 2017

Of course, I've heard of The Phantom of the Opera.
Never read nor watched it, though.

The story, however, is very intriguing. And a modern spin of it sounds fascinating.

But the real reason I'm so interested in this book is the author.
I heard amazing things about her previous books (the Splintered trilogy). That, combined with the super compelling synopsis, is enough to get me interested.

You Don't Know My Name by Kristen Orlando
Publication date: January 10, 2017

A teenage spy!
Another trope the world will never have enough of.

Overall, if the synopsis proves true, this looks to be a super fun read with a kickass protagonist, forbidden romance, and spies!

Frostblood by Elly Blake
Publication date: January 10, 2017

Ruby is a fireblood, able to use the power of heat and flame.
Too bad for her that her world is currently controlled by froosbloods, seeking to eliminate her kind.

After her mother's death, Ruby seeks vengeance.
Instead, she finds a rebellion in need of her powers, an infuriating (yet irresistible) love interest, and a deadly tournament.

You know... I don't think I'll ever get tired of this classic tale of YA fantasy (:
It always finds new ways to surprise me.
I'm hoping Frostblood will too.

After note: so there seems to be a small change with the publication date because according to my kindle it comes out on January 12th and not January 10th.

The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova
Publication date: January 10, 2017

I wasn't sold on this book by its strange cover.
Nor by its utterly confusing synopsis.
No, it was the super positive reviews.

As strange and confusing as this book sounds (I'm honestly not even sure what's it about), I was hooked by the reviews.

And so I'm going to read it. And hopefully understand it, too.

Poison's Kiss by Breeana Shields
Publication date: January 10, 2017

A teenage assassin who possesses a poisonous kiss?
Interesting.
Very interesting.

She kills for them.
That is, until she's ordered to kill the boy she loves.

And apparently, it centers around Indian folklore.

Am I reading this?
Of course I'm reading this.

A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard
Publication date: January 12, 2017

Ever since watching the show Switched at Birth (highly recommended, by the way), I became immensely more intrigued with topics surrounding deafness and other physical disabilities.

I admit, most of my focus is around mental disabilities.
It's not to say I don't feel for the physical ones as well.

Recently, I started to see more and more of it. Like the TV shows Switched at Birth (again, highly recommended). And the book The Call.
And now this book - A Quite Kind of Thunder.

Seffi is mute, but she has so much to say.
Rhys is deaf, but he's a great listener.
This is their story.

Cursed by Jessica Sorensen
Publication date: January 16, 2017

On the eve of her eighteenth birthday, Remi finds out she's a reaper.
She struggles with her curse, a charming yet dangerous grim reaper named Cameron, and with the notions of good vs. evil.

Sounds awesome to me.

Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth
Publication date: January 17, 2017

Veronica Roth is still a sore subject to me.
For those of you who read the Divergent trilogy... you know what I'm talking about.
For those of you who haven't... a friendly warning: stop at book 2 and pretend the 3rd one doesn't exist. Just saying.

I'm not angry anymore. But I still feel betrayed.
Ever since a certain moment, I started mistrusting authors.

I didn't want to read this book.
I didn't want to love this book.
But life isn't about what you want, but what you need.
And apparently, I need this book in my life.
Because the moment I finished reading the excerpt, I was all the way in.

*sigh*
You've got me good Veronica Roth.
Just like you got me with Divergent.

History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera
Publication date: January 17, 2017

I heard fantastic things about Adam Silvera's first novel, More Happy Than Not, and this one is getting amazing reviews as well.

It's LGBT + mental illness + YA coming of age.
I admit that I don't get to read many books like that.
All the more reason why I'm so excited about it.

City of Saints & Thieves by Natalie C. Anderson
Publication date: January 24, 2017

A YA murder mystery set in Kenya!
I mean... how could I not read it?

You probably don't know but I became very much obsessed with YA thrillers ever since discovering Jennifer Lynn Barnes' The Naturals and The Fixer books.
I've been craving to read some more, and here is my chance!

Exo by Fonda Lee
Publication date: January 31, 2017

I'm always in for a sci-fi alien YA type of story.
Especially ones that sound as good as Exo.

And if you're still not convinced, here is what Sabaa Tahir has to say about it: Sabaa Tahir's review.
Personally, I couldn't get into An Ember In the Ashes. But I know a lot of people love the series.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Publication date: January 31, 2017

The sheer hype of this book is overwhelming.
Everyone - and I do mean everyone - saying the hype is real.

Caraval looks amazing, seems amazing and sounds amazing.
The only thing left is for it to be amazing (:

"Every person has the power to change their fate if they are brave enough to fight for what they desire more than anything."
        -- Craval, Stephanie Garber

Yes, those are my most anticipated books of January 2017.
A lovely bunch, aren't they? ;)
Although statistically speaking it's doubtful, I want to love them all.
But even if I can just love some, I'll be happy.
What do you think?
Are some of those your most anticipated books too? Have you any others I didn't mention?
Did you find anything here you want to read?
I'd love to know!
So please tell me all about it,
and have yourselves a fantastic new year!
